Gamifying Educational Experiences

Gamification is the application of game design techniques to non-game contexts, such as business, healthcare, government, education, and more. Gamification can be used to make learning experiences fun and engaging. Research studies have shown that gamification of digital learning experiences leads to more desirable student outcomes.

Gamification can be used to make schoolwork more fun and engaging for students. On gamified learning platforms, students can also play learning games with each other. We have built games where students had a completely gamified experience of learning mathematics. Our team built one of the most engaging K-8 game-based learning platforms, Math Planet. We had parents telling us that their children were ‘addicted to math games’! Gamified experiences can help students overcome the fear of learning.

We can use game thinking to design learning games that make players do their best. Game designers use a number of techniques to make the player have fun while also learning. See the concept of Math Tycoon below that our design team developed. This was a Farmville for math, where students could grow their farm by doing more math! Sounds fun, right!?

Games are perfect to immerse in a learning experience because they can keep a learner’s attention for a longer time. Online randomized controlled trials have shown that novelty, suspense, and challenge in games can boost learner engagement. Game-based learning is now more popular than ever, with thousands of free learning games available to students online.

Do you want to build engaging and effective learning games for your students or your platform? Our highly skilled game design team can work with you to create immersive learning games that can give students playful learning experiences.
